Each year, the American Trauma Society selects a limited number of outstanding injury prevention professionals to receive its TULIP Awards. The “TULIP” Award, an acronym for “Trauma’s Unique Leaders and Innovating Professionals,” honors exceptional leadership and achievement within the trauma community nationwide.
This year, the State of Maryland is proud to have not one, but two of its injury prevention professionals recognized among this distinguished group. Kristie Barron, Supervisor of the Injury Prevention Program at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, received the Professional Guiding Star Award (Level I/II Trauma Centers). Zakk Arciaga, Assistant Director of Trauma at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, received the Professional Visionary Leadership Award.
The TULIP Awards were presented at the 12th Annual Injury and Violence Prevention Professionals Symposium, hosted by the Trauma Prevention Coalition in Clearwater, Florida. The three other individuals recognized were Doresha Jackson (St. Josephs Hospital), Katyanne Zink (Wentworth Douglass Hospital) and Petra Stanton (Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital). These individuals were honored with the Community Impact Award, the Professional Guiding Star Award (Level III/IV Trauma Centers), and the Professional Trailblazing Leadership Award, respectively.
The American Trauma Society emphasizes that each awardee serves as a living reminder that injury and violence prevention impactful, with these individuals helping to meaningfully change the trajectory of trauma care.
