The Committee On Trauma

The mission of the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma is to develop and implement meaningful programs for trauma care in local, regional, national, and international arenas. These programs must include education, professional development, standards of care, and assessment of outcomes.

The Maryland Committee on Trauma

Over the past ten years, the Maryland COT has truly enjoyed a full and productive life. Under the outstanding leadership of Sharon Henry, MD, FACS, many ACS courses were set in motion, providing a wide range of educational activities designed to optimize the care of the trauma patient and enhance the professional development of all interested trauma providers in the State.

The Society of Trauma Nurses

The Society of Trauma Nurses is a professional nonprofit organization whose mission is to ensure optimal trauma care to all people locally, regionally, nationally and globally through initiatives focused on trauma nurses related to prevention, education and collaboration with other healthcare disciplines. The Society of Trauma Nurses advocates for the highest level of quality trauma care across the continuum.

The American Trauma Society

The American Trauma Society is dedicated to the elimination of needless death and disability from injury. For nearly 50 years, ATS has served as an advocate for the trauma care system, trauma prevention programs, and the victims of trauma and their families throughout the United States. Our goals are to prevent injury whenever possible, and to ensure optimal treatment of trauma when it does occur.

Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma

The Eastern Association for the Surgery of Trauma (EAST) provides a forum for the exchange of knowledge to advance the care and rehabilitation of the injured patient. EAST places particular emphasis on interdisciplinary collaboration, scholarship, fellowship and developing leadership among young surgeons active in the care of the injured patient.

The American Association
for the Surgery of Trauma

The American Association for the Surgery of Trauma was conceived during the meetings of the Western Surgical Association and Southern Surgical Association in December 1937. The 14 founders who were present at one or both of these meetings invited another 68 surgeons to a Founding Members meeting in San Francisco on June 14, 1938 and the first official meeting of the AAST was held in May 1939 in Hot Springs, Virginia.

Emergency Nurses Association

At ENA, our mission is to advocate for patient safety and excellence in emergency nursing practice. We envision our self to be the global emergency nursing resource and advocate for Safe Practice and Safe Care.  Our values, derived from the vision of our co-founders Judith Kelleher and Anita Dorr, guide our priorities.

Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems

The Maryland Emergency Medical Services (EMS) System is a coordinated statewide network that includes volunteer and career EMS providers, medical and nursing personnel, communications, transportation systems, trauma and specialty care centers and emergency departments. The Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems (MIEMSS) oversees and coordinates all components of the statewide EMS system in accordance with Maryland statute and regulation. This includes planning, operations, evaluation, and research.

Maryland Department of Transportation

The Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) is an organization comprised of five business units and one Authority. They are: The Secretary’s Office, MDOT State Highway Administration, MDOT Maryland Transit Administration, MDOT Motor Vehicle Administration, MDOT Maryland Port Administration, MDOT Maryland Aviation Administration and the Maryland Transportation Authority. This unique approach provides the state’s leadership with the ability to develop a coordinated and balanced approach to transportation.

Maryland Highway Safety Office Zero Deaths Maryland

MDOT MVA MHSO is dedicated to saving lives and preventing injuries by reducing motor vehicle crashes through the administration of a comprehensive network of traffic safety programs. MDOT MVA MHSO endeavors to provide expert highway safety leadership through quality programs, ethical grants management, professional and accountable staff, and exemplary customer service.
